Renovation of a Country House Interior

The house is located in a picturesque suburb of Saint Petersburg, close to scenic parks and some of the most beautiful former imperial country residences.

The goal of the project was to refresh the existing interior, making it brighter and more welcoming for a small family of four who enjoy hosting guests and value a warm, homely atmosphere.

As the family did not plan to move out during the renovation and the timeline was very tight, it was decided to avoid major construction work. The interior was updated through repainting the walls, adding decorative elements, and replacing the furniture

It was decided not to make major changes to the layout, keeping the dining area in the bay window. The seating area was simply complemented with a coffee table, and the furniture around the TV was made lighter in appearance.

In the kitchen, it was important to create a максимально functional and ergonomic space while also avoiding major changes to the existing layout and working within the constraints of the existing utilities.

In the kitchen, the decision was made to replace the flooring and introduce a more vibrant tile, using it as a key accent element that harmonizes with the wall color of the dining area.

The walls and kitchen cabinetry were finished in white tones to enhance natural light and create a sense of visual lightness and openness.

The U-shaped kitchen was designed to be both spacious and highly functional, while its light color palette prevents it from feeling visually heavy.

The upper cabinets were finished with wooden fronts to create a visual connection between the kitchen, the dining table, and the wooden decorative elements on the walls.

The primary objective was to infuse the space with

as much natural light as possible.

The first priority was to fill the space with as much natural light as possible. For this reason, all curtains were removed from the windows, placing the emphasis on the windows themselves rather than on textiles.

The beige wallpaper, which visually weighed down the space, was removed from the walls, and the walls were painted white.

Color was used only to accent a small dining area and to highlight the windows, which were framed with colored—but not overly bright—olive-green moldings.

These tones harmonize beautifully with the greenery of the garden, visually connecting the interior of the house with the surrounding landscape

To create an even brighter and more airy atmosphere, the doorways between rooms were widened. They were also framed with the same moldings as the windows, helping to visually unite the living room and the kitchen.

Framing door and window openings is a design technique that always lends architectural completeness to a space, which was precisely the intention in this project.
